Trulia’s Crime and Commute Maps To Be Showcased As Innovative Examples of Using Government Data to Advance Public Safety, By Helping People Find Homes in Safe Neighborhoods with Manageable Commutes
SAN FRANCISCO, September 14, 2012 – Trulia, a leading online marketplace for homebuyers, sellers, renters and real estate professionals, today announced that Chief Operating Officer Paul Levine will speak at the White House “Safety Datapalooza” on Friday, September 14. His remarks will focus on how Trulia is providing the inside scoop on what it is like to live in cities and neighborhood blocks across the country by leveraging open government data on reported crime and commute times – made available through the Obama Administration’s Safety Data Initiative. He will also touch on the importance of making more government data sets available in order for technology companies, like Trulia, to develop tools to help people become better-informed consumers. Additionally, Paul will demo how Trulia’s crime and commute maps have helped homebuyers and renters make smarter real estate decisions.

The event will also feature the announcement of new safety data resources being made available, including valuable, real-time tools to provide details about natural disasters and improve preparedness and emergency response. The event will be followed by an “expo” in which attendees will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on demonstrations of the innovations highlighted.
Other speakers at the Safety Datapalooza include The Honorable John Pocari, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Transportation; The Honorable Seth D. Harris, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor; The Honorable Marcia McNutt, Director, U.S. Geological Survey; and Todd Park, Assistant to the President,U.S. Chief Technology Officer.
